Robby Thiel Motorsports
Born on June 21st, 1993, Robby was bred into a family that consists of racing roots and became a third generation driver. The Van Roy family is from Darboy, WI which is a suburb near Appleton, WI. Robby's grandpa Ron Van Roy (retired), uncle Terry Van Roy, uncle Roger Van Roy, uncle Randy Van Roy (retired), and Aunt Jessie Van Roy all raced or are currently racing. Terry and Jessie run super stocks at Wisconsin International Raceway (WIR) in Kaukana, WI on Thursday nights. Terry also runs Figure 8 races at WIR. Terry (Grand National), Roger (A Modified), and Robby (B Modified) all race on local dirt tracks at Oshkosh Speedzone on Friday nights (Oshkosh, WI), 141 Speedway on Saturday nights (Francis Creek, WI), and at Seymour Speedway on Sunday nights (Seymour, WI). Running four nights a week, the Van Roy family stays busy during the summer prepping and racing.
At the age of 15 Robby built his first modified and the day before his 16th birthday he ran his first race at 141 Speedway when it was still asphalt. Robby would race against his Aunt Jessie at 141. He scored his first win at the last race of 2009 his rookie year. In 2010 Rob made the transition over to racing dirt in a modified. In 2012, he was involved in a wreck that totaled his car. Not only did this hurt his car, but it also hurt his wallet. Not being able to afford a mod anymore, he made the transition down to a B mod, or sport mod, and has nothing but success ever since. In the 2013 season he picked up 6 heat wins, a semi win, and placed 8th in points at Seymour Speedway and 10th at Oshkosh Speedzone, all while running two seperate sport mods. Nothing but promising looks are ahead for the 2014 season as he picks up new sponsors and a new ride!
